Encaustic:
Habitrails of the Mind
Summer 2021
Artist's Statement This series of encaustic work began in early 2020 when suddenly we were confined to home and our own minds. Our routines changed dramatically causing disturbances of every variety- money, health, spiritual, safety etc.
This series attempts asks the audience to hold the stillness and follow a busy trail. It's hard to do amid the hundreds of hand carved lines- some deep, some shallow, some gouged or redacted areas- some areas erode like a memory we struggle to reconstruct. However when the viewer stands back, they may observe pattern without focusing attention on one particular thing. This is what we achieve in meditation. I hope these pieces remind you how easy it is to shift attention.
